How to Install and Activate an eSIM Before Traveling

Installing your travel eSIM before departure can make it easier to get connected once you arrive at your destination.

Step 1: Confirm Your Phone Supports eSIM

Before purchasing, verify that your smartphone supports eSIM technology and is not carrier locked.

Step 2: Choose Your Travel Plan

Select the destination or region you are visiting. RoamioPass offers prepaid travel eSIMs and unlimited eSIM options.

Step 3: Receive Your eSIM Details

After your order is processed, follow the provided installation instructions. Depending on the plan and device, installation may involve scanning a QR code or entering eSIM details manually.

Step 4: Add the eSIM to Your Phone

Open your phone's mobile or cellular settings and choose the option to add an eSIM. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully.

Step 5: Label Your eSIM

Give the travel eSIM a recognizable label such as “Travel,” “Japan,” or “Europe.” This makes it easier to distinguish it from your regular SIM.

Step 6: Select It for Mobile Data

When appropriate for your plan, set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line. You may also need to enable data roaming for the travel eSIM.

Should You Activate Before Departure?

Installation and activation are not always the same thing. Some plans begin their validity when they connect to a supported network, while others may have different activation rules.

Always follow the instructions supplied with your specific plan and avoid activating it earlier than necessary.
